The Thematic Review of Adult Learning (TRAL)
analyzes policy options within different national contexts, specifically in terms of how to improve access to and participation in adult learning, and how an acceptable standard of quality and level of effectiveness can be ensured. Phase I included nine countries: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (England). Phase II, now underway, includes Austria, Hungary, Mexico, and Poland (full reviews), and Germany, Korea, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States (focused reviews addressing adult learning of low-skilled and disadvantaged adults). This resource belongs to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD), an international body gathering about thirty developed countries worldwide.

Principles of Effectiveness in Adult Learning.
These principles have been developed by the Adult Learning Focused Institution. With the support of The Pew Charitable Trusts, an extensive benchmarking study of six highly adult learning focused colleges and universities was conducted. From the six institutions selected for in-depth study, common elements were identified in their best practices, from which the Principles of Effectiveness emerged. PDF document.

Adult Learner Inventory.
The Adult Learner Inventory (ALI) was developed by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and Noel Levitz, a leader in student satisfaction surveys. This inventory measures the levels of satisfaction of adult learners and ranks what they think is important. Using ALI, adult students evaluate further study effectiveness by rating statements such as: “This institution offers strategies to help me cope with the multiple pressures of home, work, and my studies”, “I can receive credit for prior learning derived from my previous life and work experiences” or “This institution makes support services available at convenient times and places”. The Career Education Resources catalogue outlines each of the career resources that Career Services (the New Zealand Government Career Education agency) offers, as well as a list of outcomes for students when using each of the products.
