on May 13th, 2009Introducing Career Education to the Fourth Grader Students

The fourth graders in Chuck Ruffing’s class of Vine Street Elementary School conducted a tour last Thursday. This tour was arranged by Kelly Wott of Fremont City Group that is entirely a Business Partner of REACH program of Sandusky County. Since, REACH is considered as a career education for the youth. This program is entirely designed for the business partners in order to send consultants towards the elementary classrooms in order to introduce the learners to the world of work and be totally informed about their business specialty. Kelly Wott had already visited the Ruffing’s class on its monthly basis for the past school year that gets the learners to think about its career choices after high school and even learning about the educational learning institutes subjects are required upon pursuing its further education base on the profession of their choice. According to Wott, those young learners that he caters on the tour have already chosen future career.

Each of the young learners had their different chosen profession. Just like Kelli DeVanna who wants to become a school teacher and veterinarian while Troy Owens and Foster Van Doren wants to become a policeman. As well, Owens also wants to work with the K-9 unit. Basically, the purpose of the yearly downtown Clyde tour was to introduce and support the students to be able to learn about the different career jobs or profession by the professional individuals that they have encountered. Wott initiated of giving the students a list of questions to ask those professional individuals such as “Why they have chosen that profession?”, “What are the aspects that they like in their career jobs”, “How much hours they have rendered in their work and the career education that it required in order to obtain that kind of jib function?”. Based on the question that been asked. Students learned that some of the profession individuals that they have asked in line with the permanent job employment that they got also have a part time job. Since, most of these professional individual have an extra time to perform a part time job.

The young students who joined in the tour have learned several things that are in line with the future career, entrepreneurship or business. With the basic knowledge that they got with some careers and professional individuals that they have encountered, it already provide them a glimpse on what career education program they will be pursuing in the future.
