CAREER OPTIONS: FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT
Full-time employment refers to 30 or more hours of labour with the same employer. There is usually an implicit assumption of relative permanency. Human resources personnel often refer to positions as something permanent and recruit individuals on that basis. One of the reasons people who have been laid off through corporate downsizing experience so much pain is that they consider this implicit pact has been broken.
People who regard security and stability prefer full-time employment. They believe the best way to keep security is through involvement in the organization. In the present-day workforce, some individuals may exhibit an outer "locus of control" and think that it is the organization’s responsibility to take care of them. However, this approach may actually lead to a bigger risk as they have put their future in someone else’s hands. Even a full-time employee must "Behave like they are in business for themselves" and "Hold themselves accountable for their outcomes".
